Who i am
Hi there! My name is Jaime Pawlowski and I’m a 5th semester (3rd year) Game Design and Development student! That’s me ->
I’m a firm believer in the theory that people can’t not communicate and - in turn - people can’t not tell stories. We’ve been telling stories (and playing games) for as long as we exist. It’s an essential part of humanity as a whole.
Stories and games most likely started as a method of teaching complex concepts. Hunting, foraging, social ettiquette… They also told of things greater than ourselves. Of deities and demons, heroes and heroines, beasts and monsters. Stories create a “magic circle” (Huizinga, 1955) of sorts, wherein we can explore limitations without consequences.
I have always spent a great amount of time within this magic circle. Everything inspired me to tell a story around it - both to people around me and to myself. As a child, I began drawing comics, writing essays, and finding as many creative outlets as I could.
Writing and art on their own were intriguing, no doubt! But I wanted stories that grew and changed with and around me. I yearned for something greater… and that’s when I was introduced to the wondrous world of video games! I delved headfirst into the narrative-driven genres. Professor Layton, Journey, Beyond Two Souls, and Pokémon, just to name a few.
This love for stories has only grown since I was little. Combined with my affinity for art, it fostered my interest in Game Design, which I then began to study right after graduating from secondary school. I achieved my Abitur in 2020, with a 1.8 grade average and English and Art Honours classes.
And now I’m at the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, right at the heart of some of the biggest gaming events in Germany! My journey has just begun and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me!
Since this is my portfolio and I get to decide what happens with it, I made the executive decision of including my dog Bennett. Look at him!
