The importance of the rainbow plate

During our fifth semester we had the opportunity and the pleasure to work in cooperation with Boehringer Ingelheim. They requested for a game to be made about the importance of a balanced diet.

Said game would then be distributed amongst their workforce to ensure that mindful eating habits and good physical health are prioritised.

The Design process

This game was a group project with Juni Schulze, Lucia Möllenbruck, Finn rose and Anabel Bunk. In this Group I took care of the Narrative and quiz design alongside Lucia and Took care of the documentation and presentation aspects.

in the beginning of the design process we brainstormed possible implementations of the given topic. We quickly settled on a visual novel since this genre is one of the most beginner-friendly game genres we could imagine.

juni designed the personified Food groups, Lucia and I did research on the individual nutrients and implemented them into the quiz questions and finn filled the role of resident programmer. ANabel did the UI Design.

We focussed on easy-to-understand language, clear design and lovable characters to make the gaming experience as fun as possible even for employees that are entirely unfamiliar with digital games. Additionally, we kept the play time to a short 10-15 Minutes so that the employees can finish one playthrough on their break.

By ways of the branching narrative structures there is a considerable potential for replayability as well.
