The Design process

Originally, “the heist of a lifetime” was a submission for a storytelling module at my university. The Basis for this game was “The hero’s journey”, as popularised by joseph campbell.

however, I wanted to adapt this narrative formula to facilitate a more light-hearted Story. The Story of the dogs Butterscotch and marley.

I started by planning the narrative beats using the circular structure of the Hero's journey.

After finalizing the story, I started planning the playable area. Since the game is set in an apartment with a garden, I made sure that the rooms in the apartment were logically arranged.

my engine of choice was the bitsy game maker by adam LeDoux. I had used it before during the storytelling module and loved the simplicity and aesthetic of it.
